Over a hundred individuals queued up outside Apex Outfitters on Thursday to get their hands on a nostalgic Nike shoe priced at approximately $130.
Recall the beloved animated crimefighters Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. They’re making a comeback in a series of Powerpuff-themed shoes produced in collaboration with Nike SB, a release bound to evoke nostalgia among those born in the 90s and prompt sneaker enthusiasts to act quickly.
The lengthy line was visible through WRAL’s downtown Apex camera, with some individuals joining the queue as early as 5:30 a.m.
While some in line were purchasing the shoes for personal use or as gifts, certain buyers informed WRAL News that they could resell the shoes for at least twice the original price. This exclusive collaboration commemorates the 25th anniversary of the cherished Cartoon Network show that premiered in 1998. Each of the three sneakers pays homage to a different Powerpuff Girl.

Blossom’s shoe, symbolizing her intelligence and grace, features a pink and white color scheme with floral accents.
- Bubbles’ shoe, capturing her carefree spirit, dazzles in a baby blue and yellow colorway with cloud and rainbow motifs.
- Buttercup’s shoe, channeling her raw power, sizzles in a green and black colorway with lightning bolt designs.
The shoes include hidden details paying tribute to the show’s iconic elements:

- Heel panels split up the ingredients that led to their creation – “sugar, spice, and everything nice.”
- Insole reverse references their origin story with the beaker Professor Utonium breaks.

According to Alex Rambert, a Nike shoe collector, “Bubbles” is particularly sought after due to its color, with the blue and yellow ones being the most desired.
