Greta Gerwig’s “pop-pink feminist fantasy” earned Ryan Gosling a nomination for Best Supporting Actor and America Ferrera a well-deserved yet unexpected nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Similar to her experience with 2019’s “Little Women,” Gerwig unfortunately missed out on a directing nomination again (along with lead actress Margot Robbie), though she and partner Noah Baumbach were acknowledged in the Best Adapted Screenplay category (which itself sparked controversy).

Emily Blunt earned her first Oscar nomination for her remarkable portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty, while Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. were also recognized for their performances.
