Team Spirit Secures Second International Title with Convincing 3-0 Victory over Gaimin Gladiators

In a thrilling conclusion to The International 12 Dota 2 tournament, Team Spirit emerged victorious, securing a 3-0 win against Gaimin Gladiators in the highly anticipated final. This triumph not only marks them as the champions of TI12 but also solidifies their status as two-time winners, previously claiming the title at The International 10 in 2021.

Team Spirit now joins the elite ranks of double TI champions, standing alongside the renowned OG, who achieved this feat with consecutive wins at TI8 and TI9. While OG accomplished their victories with the same roster, their journey involved some roster changes, emphasizing the adaptability and resilience of the team.

The grand final showcased a clash between two formidable teams, with Team Spirit arriving on the back of a significant victory at the Ryiad Masters and an impressive season. Gaimin Gladiators, on the other hand, sought to achieve the grand slam after securing victories in all three DPC Majors throughout the year.

The first game of the final witnessed unconventional hero picks, with Gyrocopter and Beastmaster making appearances. Despite Gyrocopter’s struggles at TI, and Beastmaster holding a modest 27% win rate, both teams demonstrated confidence in their strategies. Team Spirit’s Beastmaster proved to be the standout performer, securing a decisive victory over Gaimin Gladiators’ Gyrocopter, giving Team Spirit a 1-0 lead.

In the second game, both teams returned to more comfortable hero selections. Team Spirit opted for the Magnus for Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov, a hero-player combination pivotal to their TI10 victory. Once again, the synergy proved unbeatable, granting Team Spirit another convincing win and a 2-0 lead, bringing them to match point.

The third and final game featured meta picks dominating TI12, with both teams strategically selecting powerful heroes. Team Spirit’s lineup included CK, Grimstroke, Tusk, and Spirit Breaker, while Gaimin chose Meurta, Pango, and AA. Gaimin initially held a strong position, but Team Spirit’s strategic plays and crucial team fights turned the tide, securing their third map win and the coveted TI12 championship.

Despite a reduced prize pool compared to previous years, Team Spirit claims a substantial reward of at least $1,413,785. Gaimin Gladiators, the valiant runners-up, take home $376,954. LGD Gaming secured third place and $251,372, while Azure Ray earned $172,753 for their fourth-place finish.

The International 12 has been hailed as a massive improvement over the previous year, showcasing outstanding CGI around the arena, top-notch in-game action, and exceptional English broadcast talent. The contributions of casters Austin “Cap” Walsh, Avery “SVG” Silverman, and host Natalie “NatTea” Mahoney have been particularly praised. The tournament also unveiled a brand new Dota 2 hero, adding excitement for the future. Despite the absence of a DPC, the success of TI12 sets high expectations for an equally thrilling TI13.
